Family Kingdom General Manager in Court for Failing to Pay NASSIT for Staff

  An IT officer at Family Kingdom has taken the company’s general manager to court, accusing him of failing to pay mandatory social security contributions.  Firas Youssef, the president and general manager of United Family Kingdom Investment, faced legal action on Friday, August 23, 2024, brought against him by Mahmoud Mansaray, an IT officer at Family Kingdom. Mansaray accused Youssef of failing to pay his National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) contributions, as required by law. The case was heard by Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1, where Youssef was charged with non-registration of an employee, in violation of Section 30 (1)(a) of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust Act of 2001. The charges also included making a false representation with the intent to evade payment of NASSIT contributions. Freetown City Council Distributes 25,000 Trees for Greener City

  The Freetown City Council (FCC) has launched a three-day tree giveaway event on Friday, August 23. In a bid to revitalize Freetown’s environment, the initiative aims to distribute and co-plant 25,000 trees across the city Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, joined by partners such as the Ministry of Tourism, the National Tourist Board, IOM, GIZ, and Welthungerhilfe, symbolically planted the first tree at Lumley Beach. The event also honored the late Sia Kamara, a key figure in the FCC’s tree planting initiative, which the World Bank and Bloomberg Philanthropies supported. To ensure the trees’ growth is monitored effectively, each tree will be digitally tracked. The tree giveaway is a significant step towards increasing Freetown’s green spaces. US Embassy Announces New Visa Appointment Platform

 The US Embassy in Freetown has informed the Public that starting August 16, there will be a new platform for scheduling Visa Appointments. The Embassy revealed that Applicants will no longer use UStraveldocs for this purpose. For ease of transferring applicants’ appointment and payment information to the new system, applicants are advised by the Embassy to take the following steps at your earliest convenience: • Ensure that all the data entered in your profile is complete and correct. If you need to correct any information, please do so immediately. • If you have paid your visa fee but have not associated it with your profile, please ensure you log in to your profile and associate your payment by entering the payment receipt number at step 8 of the scheduling process. • If you are a group coordinator, or family, and you added dependent visa applicants to primary applicant profiles, please ensure each dependent/applicant has a unique email address.
